On April 15th, we commemorate the birthday of Booker Taliafero Washington.

 

 


Maya AngelouOn April 4th, we also celebrate the birthday of our present day role model, Maya Angelou. She is a great author, poet, historian, educator, civil rights activist, screenplay writer, producer and director. Ms. Angelou is currently a Reynolds professor at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The spring DCCAS Test will be administered April 24th- 28th. Parents, please make sure your children are present and on time. Test results are enhanced when students have breakfast each morning.

Attention: Supplies Committee: Students need #2 pencils for the test.

Additionally, we would like to make available to all students Granola bars and juice for each day of the testing period. Thanks!!

School CLOSED April 10th -17th

SEX EDUCATION MONTH:

During the month of April, students participate in the annual spring Instructional Sex Education Program. We will help the children: (1) Learn the correct names for parts of the body, the elimination processes and reproductive terms; (2) Learn effective ways to handle people who approach them with sexual advances/actions or offer incorrect information and (3) Learn responsible attitudes & behavior regarding Human Sexuality. Parents are encouraged to review our curriculum and sit in or volunteer with the classes.

School Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 20th at 9:30 am for grades 1 - 8. All students must be on time and IN UNIFORM. Picture date for pre-primary is April 27th at 9:30 am. (Make-up date: April 27th)

SCHOOL PROCEDURE FOR BAD WEATHER

Roots PCS will be closed during bad weather if DC Public Schools are also closed. If it is announced that DC Public Schools will open 2 hours late, Roots will open at 9:00am. However, we will not accept students after 10:00am.
